Active Learning CoP #12 - Teaching with Copilot: What works in the classroom?

During this Active Learning CoP event, will be facilitated by Dr Giovanna Comerio, from University of South Wales, who will be discussing the use of GenAI in teaching and learning. Her session will aim to answer questions such as: How do we teach by using GenAI chatbots? What Gen-AI supported learning tasks do help students understand the fundamentals of our discipline? This workshop explores the integration of GenAI chatbots, specifically Microsoft Copilot, into in-class teaching activities to enhance student learning outcomes by supporting them to critically engage with GenAI chatbots and learn how to use them for learning.
The workshop will provide hand-on activities and enable participants to experiment with practices that have been successful for participants in a PgCertHE course at the University of South Wales. Following the activities, there will be opportunities for attendees to further discuss their own approaches in the use of GenAI in their courses.
Information about the guest speaker:
Dr Giovanna Comerio, SFHEA, is a lecturer in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University of South Wales. She leads the module Practitioner Inquiry of the PgCertHE course and supports staff professional development. Her research focuses on teacher agency, international students’ experience in UK higher education, and teaching with GenAI. To develop students’ lifelong learning skills, she focuses on the enhancement of their motivation and self-regulative skills. To do this, she favours peer-teaching and problem-based teaching.
